Legs the Female Boss

March 21, 2018

Meet Legs, I first discovered her after “accidentally” landing on her page, realising very quickly that I need her to relocate to the UK! Why? Because she is a badass nail artist who takes inspiration from the art around her. Whilst on her page I spotted something that looked a lot like the work of The Art of Chase, I was right and sent her an email immediately. I adore her work because it is full of life and joy, from bright colours to crazy patterns, it’s hard to not look down at your own nails and feel a little grey, and no, yellow nail varnish will not make a difference, especially when being applied by...me! Her story may leave you wanting to quit your day job and finally pursue your dreams, it did for me! I admire her because she took a risk on herself and it paid off.

Having always had a passion for nail art which, lead to it becoming a hobby, things were soon to change whilst, a student at boarding school during her high school years. Fed up of worrying about money, being jobless and  bartering manicures for a cup of noodles, enough was enough! Having always known a 9-5 job was never for her, instead she craved a creative outlet, one that came with no limitations and allowed her to fall in love with her work. Her now fiance encouraged her to attend nail school, four years later and here she is, a successful business women.

What do you enjoy most about being a nail technician?

The women I get to meet, hands down. I feel the most inspired when I'm surrounded by other lady bosses. Being a nail artist has given me the opportunity to work with women who have created their own businesses just like I have, I love that we support each and feed off each other. I've recently teamed up with one of my favourite clients and closest friends to create a Facebook group of girl bosses so we can all inspire and help each other grow. That is my favourite part of this job.

Being a nail artist is a lot of fun, I get to do what I love everyday. Im able to have a creative outlet, and I get to meet really awesome women and work with them daily. The nail art community is such a fun community and we all support each other so much.

What drew you to Chase's work?

When I was in High School in LA before, I went to boarding school, I used to hang out on the 3rd street promenade everyday. I first saw Chases stuff on that promenade, I was instantly obsessed. I loved the little inspirational messages with in his pieces,

"remember who you are" "chase love" "follow your heart."

As I got older I started to see his work pop up all over Los Angeles, I would take photos of it and make art inspired by it in art class in high school. I even once begged my mum to take me to one of his art shows in Venice, I was definitely the youngest person there and I bought a t-shirt that I still have to this day!!

In what way did his style of art inspire your designs?

The nails I created are 100% pulled from multiple different murals of his. I picked a few of the most vibrant murals I found of his feed and recreated those nails

How long did it take to complete?

That set took about an hour and half to create.

What was your clients reaction like at the end?

She loved them! Chase was a new artist for her but she became a fan after those nails. I want to more sets inspired by his work.
